It is the second to last day of winter and then officially it will be spring here. I can not wait until this is really the case and I dont have to stand at saturday morning sport with about 5 outer layers on and the change of clothing in the car incase it rains.
So without further ado here is this weeks menu.
Monday Frozen meal Chicken Pie ( I have been saving this for sometime as work has been unusually busy and I know I am getting tired. So drag this out of the freezer defrost warm and eat. Sounds blissfully easy.)
Tuesday Beef wraps
Wednesday steak and salad with vege
Thursday Crockpot meal. Still using up my steak and kidney packs from the freezer. Today I am going to try and create a sweat curry flavour.
Friday chicken and chips home made.
Saturday Pumpkin soup with homemade bread on the bbq
Sunday Leftovers
Sorry not many links this week. I will put together a post about my crockpot recipe I think.

New Teeth the up date
So I posted here about the fact that Hayden lost two teeth on the same day and some of concerns. Fortunately he has a new tooth growing. We are very excited and Hayden is just complaining of the sore mouth. Of course we are very happy it does mean he has teeth and further medcial attention is not needed.
So the milo covered face is evidence (barely visible) of the new tooth.

So it Rains
So it rains and it is the weekend. The children are starting to get a little tetchy being stuck inside both Saturday and Sunday. This is what they do in the puddle at the end of our driveway.
Yes even the cardboard floats or so they thought. Hot shower were the order of the day. After all it is August and technically still winter.
I just had to scrap the photos I had. The credits can be found here at Nuts4digi

Toothless
So at nearly eight years of age Hayden lost his first, no first and second teeth both on the same day. I have been thinking for some time that his milk teeth were looking very tiny and worn out. I was worried that perhaps there are no adult teeth sitting in the gums waiting to pop out. Deep down I have hoping that my fears have would be realised as the last thing that Hayden needed were more appointments with specialists.
Last week he tells me he has a sore mouth. Well that was the jist of what he was saying I think. I write a note to his school saying such and added I think his tooth might be wiggly. No kidding that afternoon I get home from work and he can't wait to rush out and tell me that his 'tooth' has gone.
What I was to discover eventually was he pulled two teeth out. They really were only just sitting in the gum by the smallest slither of a tooth.
The worrries about no adult teeth are still there but at least he wont be swallowing any loose teeth.

Of course the whole conversation we had over the course of the day was a moment to record. So this is it.

Ham Corn and Pasta Pie
Ham, Corn and Cheese Pasta pie
(weight watchers magazine nz/au June 2010)
I have made alterations to the orginal.
1 small(200g) leek (pale section only), thinly sliced, washed, drained
1*310g corn kernels, rinsed, drained ( I used frozen corn)
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 medium zucchini, grated
250g leftover penne pasta
4 green shallots, trimmed, thinly sliced
150g ww shaved leg ham, chopped
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup (20g) finely grated parmesan cheese
3/4 cup (90g) light cheese grated tasty cheese
1. Preheat the barbeque to 130ish degrees. I run all 4 burners to achieve this quickly.
2. Lightly spray a large non-stick frying pan with oil and heat over medium heat. Add leek, corn, garlic and zucchini. Cook, stirring for 5 minutes or until leek has softened. Transfer leek mixture to a large bowl.add pasta, shallots, ham, eggs and half the combined cheeses. Stir to combine.
3. Transfer pasta mixture to prepared cake tin.sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set.cool in tin for 10 minutes. Cut into wedges and serve.
Serve with salad vegetables and enjoy.
So here is our uncooked pie ready on the barbeque waiting for the lid to go down.
Enjoy

Wordless Wednesday
Here is my Wordless Wednesday
Our 60 year old Puriri tree broke a sewage line from our neighbours house. Here are all 4 men out digging and managing the job, the neighbour, my husband, etc etc. The offending root was larger than my leg.

Someone in our house is a runner.
It is always amazing when I discover new about one of my children. I think that I know them really well but today I discovered that McKenzie is really keen on running. Not just sprints but cross country running, 2.5 kilometers. Undulated course with mud and cow pats to negociate was all part of the fun.
This photo does not give a really good perspective of what it was like today at Paparimu School but look at those hills in the distance. They are opposite the hill I am standing on. The children had to run down and up the hills twice. Not an easy ask for anybody.
Of course what would a blog post without a photo of the runner in question coming up to the finish line in 6th place.
So I was thinking. I would be great to keep this interest up. I am currently investigating some orienterring in the summer, after the hockey is finished. Just the perfect follow on from cross country and all of that Hash we did while living in Brunei but that is another post.
As for me. It was a crisp day today. I wore many layers to keep warm and was very lucky that it was not raining. I am told that this even is held even when it is raining and this was the first year in may that it hasn't rained. My new gumboots did not get tested to their maximum today. Not that I am complaining.
