What is it about boys. They never out grow wanting to play with cars. Just like my 8 years shows.

Liebster Award - April 2012
It is not very often I think about who might be reading my blog. I truely blog because it really like some sort of diary. Gets the ideas out of my head and down on paper. This was especially true in the beginning as I was writing about Haydens sort but painful life.
So thank you to Yvette from Delightfully Tacky Little Squirts for awarding me with the Liebster Award. This award is given to blogs with under 200 followers who inspire others. Gosh I am really humbled.
So here are the rules for accepting this award.

Trash to Fashion update
As you know from my blog post here my daughter needs to make a fashion outfit from trash for school over this school holiday. But after much thought and a slight change in direction together we came up with a plan. So today was spent filling the living room floor with paper, plastic, and anything else that came to mind.
A google search or two with plastic bags as the focus and we had a plan.
Frist thing we did was to iron plastic to check the reliablity of the Google search. Sure enough when plastic bags are wedged between two bits of newspaper the layers of plastic stick together.
Then there was a whole lot of cutting, ironing and stapling going on.
This version, below is still held together with a few bulldog clips but it works.

Now we just have to work out the shoes.

I wish I had duck feet.
This post is adding to a series of post I have slowly been working on talking about the things you can do to entertain your child while they are sick in hospital.
In the image of the book I wish I had Duck Feet Hayden has discovered a new use for latex gloves. He had been choosing to have the book read to him lately. Suddenly, in between boughts of nausia, stripping the bed of its sheets and being hooked up to IV fluids he produces this new to me look.
It was a great block of time because not only was Hayden laughing at himself but the nurses were laughing with him.
It really is a great thing to be doing when you are sitting there in an ED department at 10.00pm
Sadly this was the first of two nights and three days in hospital.

Wordless Wednesday 11 April
With the school holidays here and the feeling that summer has truely arrived, and yet it is autumn, here is a little of what we did yesterday.
A stop at Takapuna Beach, Auckland, and in the background is the iconic Rangitoto Island which is a volcano vent. Life is good out there when the weather is lovely and sunny.

Trash to Fashion......in action part 1
The mission these holidays is to complete one fashion item from trash. All that McKenzie could think of was the old trampoline mat we have and are about to get rid of and the can tabs we collect for the Kidney Kids helping to send children with kidney disease on camp.
The first challenge was to work out how to link some can tabs to see how possible it would be to think of a design. We found some success in this area but need to go to the shops to buy some more jewellery wire.

I am sure to post more about this when we have something to show.

McKenzie sheepishly telling me that she was the first one up for her vaccination at school and yes she passed out as well. Hmmmm. Personally I can't even see the sight of the needle.

March in Numbers
Phew I can't believe that April has just started and I am sitting here writing my summary for March.
158 is the number of roofing nails I helped my DH put into our new woodshed. It is now full of wood ready for the cold weather to arrive in a month or two. Of course I should add here that I am somewhat of a cold fish and have to have my house heated to tropical temperature during the winter.
8 is the number of hockey games played pre season by McKenzie. Watch out when the season starts.
1 is the number of times the ride on mower has been to be repaired. We need to be working as it is about 3 hours of mowing with a hand mower.
0 is the number of Tuesdays DH has been home this month to help with the hectic taxi service dropping children here there and everywhere. Lucky for some to be overseas in some exotic destination while I am working hard.
Daylight saving ended and our clocks wound back 1 hour on Saturday 31 March. Yeah for light as we step out to door to take McKenzie to the bus in the morning and of course for the extra hours sleep we had on Sunday.
The number of incontinence nappies Hayden uses every month is 93. I just wish there was a good way to recycle them. Luckily these nappies are government funded because Hayden has a renal condition which produces a lot of urine.

and I thought........
Last night was the night when our clocks turned back an hour. A sure sign that winter is on the way and that the mornings would become light again. At least for a few more weeks.
(source here)
I went to bed bracing myself for a 4.30 am child alarm clock. That child being Hayden as he is either awake or asleep, there is little in between.
So to my surprise I was not woken til 6.30 am, his bedroom still in tact (if you know Hayden then you would know that some mornings we have to put gloves on to clean his bedroom) and one very happy child. I have to say two very happy parents too. Long may it last I say.
