Learning to Read

Andre is at long last loving to read.  These books he loves are not ones I would have picked for him but they are books and he is reading them none the least.

On his list are

TinTin
Paul Jennings (anything written by him)
Dirty Berty

So it just goes to show that as long as you listen to your child read every night, they have a quality reading programme at school and you read to them at home, sooner or later you will land on the right motivation for them to read for themselves.

My Cabin

My cabin is cold, it smells of fresh paint, and I have to go outside in the middle of the night to do Haydens medication.  But the end can be seen.  All going well we will own (well the bank will own it with us) a new home to live in.

So in 7 weeks time it will be goodbye to my cabin and welcome to a new home.

I have been reminded of what I value in a home while I am using my cabin.  My need for a little me time, how I value the warmth during the winter and need space of my own to put my few things.

Here is your little view of my space. (Ok it is very hard to keep it immaculately tidy)

And finally the little trek I make to tend to Haydens needs very night.  Out the door, along the deck, down the steps, up the steps and then inside his cabin.  Only to return to my cabin 3 minutes later.  Just remember it is winter while I am doing this.  Thankfully it does not snow in Auckland.

Technology

Life is full of technology today.  Some of it I think that I could live without, well for a short time anyway, like my oven (Used my barbeque for all of 2010), I can even live without the TV, Computer, electricity just like when we go camping each January a book an unpowered site.  Here I must add that a pre requisite to camping for me is that the camping ground gives me access to a hot shower at the end of the day and a flushing toilet, no long drops for me).

There are some bits of technology I can't do without.  Well it is Hayden that can't do with it.  His pump that delivers his overnight food, has been throwing up errors all week interrupting both his fluid/ food intake and my sleep.  It has taken me about 7 days to realise that Hayden is not playing with the machine but the machine itself is playing up. Seven nights of limited sleep.

So I am bought once again to understand why Hayden can not come camping with us, on the unpowered site.   Thankfully we have a replacement machine.  Hayden is now getting his full compliment of calories and fluids (to prevent the ever looming dehydration.).

My How they Grow Up

Today I was reminded just how quickly children grow up.  It seems like just yesterday that I was pregnant with our first child and today well look at her in the school production.

I can't believe that is my child who opened the whole show up on stage by herself, who was so scared this time last year that she was unable to stand in front of the school and deliver her speech for the Speech Finals.  This is the child who found it very difficult to stand in front of her class and do anything in fact.  My DH and I thought that her fear could be debilitating and she needed some skills to get her over this phase so we put her into Speech and Drama lessons 3 years ago.  Wow just look at the benefits.  I am so proud of her.

Lifes Little Challenges

Life has been very challenging lately.  Packing our house, moving into temporary accommodation, buying new house, organising finance, sharing a house with others, working....phew the list is ongoing.

Through all of this my time has become increasingly important.  Not that I get a lot of this but the little I get is vital to my sanity.  Today was a typical day of how buy life is.  DH is away for 12 days and nights at work, McKenzie is performing in a school production show in the evening, Andre has hockey practise and ofcourse I have been working.  Lets not forget that Haydens bed needed to be striped because those incontinence nappies leeked through 3 layers of beding so there was a full load of washing and.  I got out of bed at 6.00am and finally sat down at 8.00pm.  I had 30 minutes at home and thankfully Haydens wonderful carer helped me out with him for a little time and my mum went to the school show tonight and bought McKenzie home.

Phew and that is all in one day.

So heres to my cabin, my bedroom and little space of sanity for the short term (well actually that is another story), my relaxing music.  I must treat myself to this just a little more often.
